Some interesting news on the business side of horror (is that redundant?): Relativity Media has closed a deal to buy Rogue Pictures from Universal Pictures for roughly $150 million. Rogue distributed, among others, HOT FUZZ, THE STRANGERS, ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13, and DOOMSDAY for Universal in years past. Of course, Relativity now owns all these titles, and more…
This could have an effect on the films that were on Rogue’s 2009 release slate, like Wes Craven’s 25/8 (or whatever it will end up being called), and the LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT remake. Since neither had a solid release date anyway, it’s anyone’s guess when we might end up seeing them… Other Rogue pics in development include THE STRANGERS 2 (which apparently has a finished script), CASTLEVANIA and HACK/SLASH. THE UNBORN, also by Rogue, will still open this Friday, of course. Variety claims Rogue has about 30 projects in various stages of development…
