Happy Friday, folks! Before you relax into a drunken stupor for the weekend, I wanted to update you on some release dates, so you can plan accordingly. Hope your January isn’t too busy…
Things are not looking good for THE FACTORY, the John Cusack-led thriller about a detective on the trail of a serial killer prowling the streets of Buffalo, N.Y. The Dark Castle film has been pushed around several times since it went into production in late 2007, nabbing various release dates and never sticking to one for long. Well, that’s the case again. THE FACTORY was due to hit theaters on JANUARY 28, 2011, but it has been pulled. Again. I’m smelling CASE 39 here…
Taking over the JANUARY 28 slot is THE RITE, the exorcism tale starring Anthony Hopkins, Alice Braga, Ciaran Hinds and Toby Jones. The story, supposedly based on true events, centers on a disillusioned American seminary student who attends exorcism school at the Vatican and ultimately finds his faith through encounters with demonic forces. Hopkins will play a priest who is an expert in exorcisms and whose methods are not necessarily traditional.
In other Dark Castle news, their other mystery, UNKNOWN WHITE MALE, has received a JANUARY 7, 2011 date. (That’s one week before CABIN IN THE WOODS is scheduled to open.) UNKNOWN stars Liam Neeson as Dr. Martin Harris, who awakens after a car accident in Berlin to discover that his wife (January Jones) suddenly doesn’t recognize him and another man (Aidan Quinn
) has assumed his identity.
January of next year will be a busy one for horror, no doubt…
