I thought this whole RETURN OF THE KILLER SHREWS thing was a joke, I must admit. However, it would appear that this sequel to the utterly forgettable 1959 schlock-fest is the real deal; color me f*cking flabbergasted. In addition to the cast we told you about a few weeks ago, the film has brought aboard something for the fans of descendants of legendary movie stars: Sean Flynn, grandson of Errol.
Flynn – evidently known to those who were familiar with a kiddie show called “Zoey 101” – joins James Best (star of the original), John Schneider (“The Dukes of Hazard”), Rick Hurst, Jennifer Lyons and Mel Tillis in SHREWS, which is gearing up to shoot in May.
For a refresher on the plot: A TV Reality Show hires CAPTAIN THORNE SHERMAN (James Best) and his boat to cargo supplies to the deserted offshore island they’re using as a filming location. Thorne would have normally refused the job because he’s been to that island before and stills sees it in his nightmares. Unfortunately, he needs the money and he’s not getting much business these days. Together with his first mate ROOK (Rick Hurst), they sail — to a place Thorne Sherman never wanted to see again as long as he lived: the island of the KILLER SHREWS.
Expect THE RETURN OF THE KILLER SHREWS to be released sometime next year. In what form remains to be seen…
