Earlier today our very own Mr. Walkuski laced you all with the tidbit that Henry James’ classic tale “Turn of the Screw” is set for 3D adaptation. Well, it turns out James isn’t the only acclaimed author whose work is being newly adapted. According to THR, Richard Matheson’s horrific science fiction novel EARTHBOUND has been optioned by producing team Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. Dig it…
Parkes/MacDonald Prods., which recently acquired EAT, SLEEP, POOP & THE MUSEUM OF SUPERNATURAL HISTORY, is working in partnership with Imagenation Abu Dhabi, which made a pact with the producers in October to fund development of feature projects. EARTHBOUND is the first acquisition done outside of DreamWorks Studios, where the producers have a first-look deal.
Now on to the not so boring end of it all. EARTHBOUND centers on a married man who starts an affair with a young stranger, only to realize that she may actually be the ghost of a long-dead woman driven by something much more than earthly passion. Ronnie Christensen (PASSENGERS, LOCKED IN) is in line to pen the script.
After reiterating Matheson’s impressive oeuvre, Parkes had this to say about the project: “We’re excited to have the opportunity to work on one of this extraordinary author’s most intimate and suspenseful novels.”
Matheson’s writings have long been rife for quality cinematic adaptation, as evidenced in flicks like THE BOX, I AM LEGEND, DUEL, HELL HOUSE, WHAT DREAMS MAY COME, OMEGA MAN, STIR OF ECHOES, and many, many more.
