It looks like all of the work David Twohy and Vin Diesel have put in to launching a new RIDDICK film has paid off, as Moviehole has just reported that the third film featuring the badass character is in pre-production and has begun casting.
While there are no details regarding when and where the film is shooting, Moviehole offers up some info about the characters, as well as what we can expect from the story. On the former, they say the main supporting characters include: “Boss Johns”, “Santana”, the sexy female merc “Dahl”, and The smug commander “Krone”. (Note that “Johns” was the name of Riddick’s human adversary in PITCH BLACK; this is apparently his father.)
Here’s some of what they dish out about the story and character: In a nutshell, the movie sees Riddick back on a barren planet, surrounded by monsters and mercenaries – both species who want him dead and vice versa. Though there’s a couple of potential cameos from previous Riddick movie faves, it’s mostly fresh blood this time surrounding the big guy. And speaking of fresh, the character seems to have gotten a welcome, kick-ass overhaul….he’s more brutal, bad-ass and virile (as some may say) than he was in the previous films.
The plot apparently ties in with both PITCH BLACK and THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, although obviously it will bear a greater resemblance to the first one.
