Ridley Scott has an idea for a third Blade Runner film

Twenty-five years passed between director Ridley Scott's BLADE RUNNER and the Denis Villeneuve-helmed sequel BLADE RUNNER 2049, which was released last year and will hit DVD and Blu-ray next week (you can pre-order a copy at THIS LINK), but if Scott has his way we won't have another twenty-five year wait before a new BLADE RUNNER movie comes out.

Speaking with Digital Spy, Scott said he hopes to get another sequel into production before long.

I think there is another story. I've got another one ready to evolve and be developed, so there is certainly one to be done for sure."

BLADE RUNNER 2049 underperformed at the box office, boasting a production budget of $150 million and making just under $260 million worldwide. The original BLADE RUNNER tanked when it was released in 1982, making far less than its production budget. With the history of this franchise bringing in disappointing numbers, I'm not sure Warner Bros. will be in any hurry to greenlight another sequel.

In the case of BLADE RUNNER 2049, Scott has blamed the 164 minute running time for turning viewers away, saying he would have "taken out a half hour". I can't comment on that, because I haven't seen BLADE RUNNER 2049 yet. That 164 minute running time (and a general lack of interest in BLADE RUNNER) turned me away.

Starring Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Robin Wright, Mackenzie Davis, Dave Bautista, David Dastmalchian, Sylvia Hoeks, Lennie James, Carla Juri, Hiam Abbass, Barkhad Abdi, and Edward James Olmos, 2049 has the following synopsis:

Officer K (Gosling), a new blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what's left of society into chaos. His discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former blade runner who's been missing for 30 years.
