Now here’s something right out of a horror flick she would have starred in…
Yvette Vickers, B-movie actress who appeared in such sci-fi classics as ATTACK OF THE 50-FOOT WOMAN and ATTACK OF THE GIANT LEECHES, was found dead in her Benedict Canyon home in L.A. She was 82.
Even more tragic than her death is the way her body was discovered. Apparently Vickers’ remains were so mummified upon discovery that authorities believe she had been dead for close to a year without anyone knowing. No cause of death has yet been determined, but when her neighbor decided to check on her when they noticed old mail and spider webs in Vickers’ mailbox, she did not recognize the corpse.
Last appearing in the 1990 horror flick EVIL SPIRITS, Vickers made her screen debut in an uncredited part in one of my favorite movies, SUNSET BLVD in 1950. She’d then kick around in TV and film through her career, in which she amassed a total of 40 credits. Other notables include work on “Mike Hammer,” “Dragnet,” Jimmy Cagney’s SHORTCUT TO HELL and another one of my all time favorites, the Paul Newman movie HUD.
RIP Ms. Vickers, you will be missed!
