I think we all owe this man a debt of sincere gratitude…
Jimmy Sangster, longtime horror scribe for Hammer Films during the 50s, 60s and 70s, has perished at the age of 83. He leaves behind a wife, actress Mary Peach, a son Mark James, and two grandchildren, Ian and Claire.
Sangster not only directed three features in the 70s, including THE HORROR OF FRANKENSTEIN, LUST FOR A VAMPIRE and FEAR IN THE NIGHT, he also helmed three TV series during that period as well. But more than that, Sangster was known…or should be known…as being as influential to early Hammer Films success as even Pete Cushing and Chris Lee. Get a gander at some of the titles Sangster penned:
With 70 writing credits to his name, Sangster was responsible for such heralded Hammer titles as X: THE UNKNOWN, THE CURSE OF FRANKENSTEIN, HORROR OF DRACULA, THE REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN, THE MUMMY, BRIDES OF DRACULA, MANIAC, PARANOIAC, NIGHTMARE and WHOEVER SLEW AUNTIE ROO?…among many others. The dude is largely to thank for so many great films that are not only fun to watch on their own, but dictated horror trends for years and years afterward.

R.I.P. Mr. Sangster…your work will carry on!
