RIP Neve in Scream?

What we know so far about SCREAM 4 is that it’s an ensemble, it takes place 10 years after the events of the third film, and Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, and David Arquette are all returning. Beyond that, it’s all just speculation and insinuation – most of which is coming from Kevin Williamson.

The SCREAM writer spoke to the NY Post about what role Sidney Prescott might have in the 4th flick, and he remained vague… to the point of hinting Sidney might not even be the last (wo)man standing.

“The thing about ‘Scream 4’ is that there are a lot of twists and turns, so I can’t promise anything,” he told PopWrap about Sidney’s role in the fourth film now that Neve will return. “There are a lot of moving pieces, so we’ll see — but if you’re a ‘Scream’ fan, I think you’re really going to like it.”

Even more curious, Williamson mentioned what kind of film SCREAM 4 will be, now that the hip self-referential angle is pretty much dead and buried. “I’ve [included] manga comics, Asian ghost girl movies, there’s some PG-13 horror movies in there, vampire movies, M. Night Shyamalan movies and torture porn movies, even though they’ve come and gone.”

Williamson is smart though, and being so, he knows that the SCREAM films have to advance past their snarky attitude toward the genre they simultaneously mocked and honored. “You have to be careful because ‘Scary Movie’ spoofed these films, so one of the things I’m excited about with ‘Scream 4’ is that, while we do lampoon and send up the genre, [we] make it incredibly scary. That’s first and foremost.”

SCREAM 4 has no official start date as of yet.
