RIP: Star Trek, Fright Night, and Green Room actor Anton Yelchin has died

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

Russian-born actor Anton Yelchin has died at the age of 27 in a freak car accident at his home early Sunday morning. The actor was on his was to a rehearsal with friends when his car rolled back and pinned him against a wall. LAPD spokeswoman Jenny Houser had this to say about the incident:

"A fatal traffic collision occurred. It was the result of the victim's own car rolling backward down his steep driveway, pinning him against a brick mailbox pillar and security fence."

Yelchin is best known for his roles in the newly rebooted STAR TREK franchise, as well as films like TERMINATOR: SALVATION, HEARTS IN ATLANTIS, ALPHA DOG, LIKE CRAZY, GREEN ROOM and the FRIGHT NIGHT remake. He had just wrapped production on the thriller THOROUBRED, as well as the romantic film PORTO. He was next set to appear alongside Brendan Gleeson in a TV series adaptation of Stephen King's Mr. Mercedes and will feature once again as Chekov in next month's STAR TREK BEYOND.

A sad and tragic loss to a talent that had so much more ahead of him. He will be sadly missed.
