R.I.P.D. looking to arrest “Weeds” star Mary-Louise Parker

Two-time Golden Globe winner Mary-Louise Parker is currently in negotiations to join the undead cop thriller R.I.P.D., according to Variety. The film, which has already lined up Ryan Reynolds, Jeff Bridges, Kevin Bacon and Stephanie Szostak, is being directed by Robert Schwentke.

The synopsis: Welcome to the Rest In Peace Department — the devoted, yet dead, officers of divine law enforcement “patrolling the deadbeat…reporting to one boss.” Yep — THAT boss. Nick Cruz was murdered by an unknown assailent, at the height of his personal and professional life. Now he’s traded a hundred years of service to the R.I.P.D. in exchange for a shot at finding who killed him. Unfortunately his search will take him to Hell and back — literally!

Parker would play the woman overseeing the secret division who explains to Reynolds’ character what has happened when he dies. Evidently, this role was almost Jodie Foster’s to own, but she passed.

Based on the graphic novel series created by Peter Lenkov, the screenplay was penned by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi. It’s due to hit theaters in June of 2013.
