R.L. Stine confirms three Fear Street movies in the works

I make it no secret here on AITH that I was (and still am) a big fan of author R.L. Stine and his kid-teen horror novels series GOOSEBUMPS and FEAR STREET. I loved the recent adaptation of Stine's GOOSEBUMPS starring Jack Black and really look forward to checking out this past Halloween's sequel GOOSEBUMPS: HAUNTED HALLOWEEN as soon as possible.

So you could probably figure out by this point that I'm also excited about the planned upcoming adaptation of Stine's FEAR STREET. Last we heard on the film(s) was way back in July… of LAST year. Back then we passed along word that Leigh Janiak (HONEYMOON) was hired to write and direct the adaptation of Stine's beloved horror book series., and that the plan at the time was for her to:

"write three different scripts that could be shot back-to-back-to-back. And released back-to-back-to-back, one month after another. The plan has been described by one insider as 'binge-ing movies.'"

But again all of this interesting af news was passed along a whopping year and a half ago. So are the movies still in the works? Well, if we are to believe Mr. Stine himself (and why shouldn't we?) evidently, yes, the three-movie plan is still very much in motion.

Stine took to Twitter to say:

Every day, people ask me if there will ever be movies based on the Fear Street books. The answer is yes. THREE Fear Street movies are in the works at Fox. While you wait, you might try the newest book…

Nice! No word on whether or not Janiak is still attached to write and direct these new films, but I sure hope so as HONEYMOON was a spooky treat for horror fans, and I really dug her episode of SCREAM: THE TV SERIES which took place in an abandoned bowling alley. Janiak was at one point set to helm a reboot of THE CRAFT, but that seems to have fallen apart. Let's hope her FEAR STREET films don't befall the same development hell fate.
