Road House remake: Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to star

Here we go again. Deadline has reported that the Road House remake is moving forward once more with Jake Gyllenhaal in talks to star. Not only that, but Doug Liman is also in talks to direct the remake.

The original Road House starred Patrick Swayze as Dalton as a “cooler” hired to help clean up The Double Deuce, one of the rowdiest bars in Missouri. The film has become a cult favourite over the years and there have been various attempts at remaking the movie. Last we heard, Nick Cassavetes was set to write and direct a Road House remake that would have starred Rhonda Rousey, but that project wound up falling apart. It’s not known if this latest Road House project will be a straight-up remake or a new take on the concept, and it’s not certain if Jake Gyllenhaal will be playing Dalton or a new character.

While I’m not certain if the world needs a Road House remake, I’ll willing to give the project a chance. Both Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman have other projects on their slates at the moment, so even if they do sign on, we won’t be seeing anything for a while. Gyllenhaal is set to star in Guy Ritchie’s The Interpreter, while Liman is getting ready to shoot his Everest project. Producers are currently meeting with writers to tackle the previous draft and the remake is being regarded as a “high priority” at MGM. Jake Gyllenhaal was recently seen starring in Antoine Fuqua’s The Guilty and will next be seen alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II and Eiza González in Michael Bay’s Ambulance. The film will hit theaters on February 18, 2022.
