Ever since 2007’s GRINDHOUSE, the name ‘Machete’ has been at the forefront of our minds, as the fake trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s MACHETE was one of the more epic parts of the whole GRINDHOUSE experience. We were promised a full-length MACHETE movie would happen, but as it’s such a dream project, I don’t know if anyone really thought that it would. But it has. With flying colors.
While we haven’t seen a sliver of anything official from the MACHETE film, we have been aware of it’s epic cast–and that alone is all we need to know. Starring Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba, Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Don Johnson, and Steven Seagal, the cast is about as epic as it could possibly get for one film.
20th Century Fox just issued a press release announcing that MACHETE will be smashing into theaters everywhere Friday, September 3, 2010, the start of the Labor Day weekend (Labor Day is September 6). You want an epic release date for such an epic movie this late in the game? It doesn’t get any better than Labor Day weekend, yo!
To get you even more pumped about this flick, check out the synopsis: The feature version of the trailer finds Machete (Trejo) a renegade former Mexican Federale, roaming the streets of Texas after a shakedown from drug lord Torrez (Seagal). Reluctantly, Machete takes an offer from spin doctor Benz (Fahey) to assassinate McLaughlin (De Niro) a corrupt Senator. Double crossed and on the run Machete braves the odds with the help of Luz (Michelle Rodriguez), a saucy taco slinger, Padre (Marin) his “holy” brother, and April (Lohan) a socialite with a penchant for guns. All while being tracked by Sartana (Alba), a sexy ICE agent with a special interest in the blade slinger.
It sounds so amazingly awesome that I just hope it lives up to the hype–or, at the very least, is as amazing as the fake trailer. If it brings just a smidgeon of that awesomeness to the table, we’re gonna be in store for a real treat.
So mark you calendars people, because MACHETE is coming September 3, 2010. Now when’s the official trailer? Most likely attached to PREDATORS, but we can only hope it makes an appearance sometime before that…
