Interesting news on George Romero’s intentions for his long running DEAD franchise. Note I didn’t say good, because I’m not sure about that yet, but definitely interesting. According to The Hollywood Reporter the new project will be called DIARY OF THE DEAD. Here’s the concept:
[A] story mixing elements of “The Blair Witch Project” and the long-running “Dead” series, the film will follow a group of college students shooting a horror movie in the woods who stumble upon a real zombie uprising. When the onslaught begins, they seize the moment as any good film students would, capturing the undead in a “cinema verite” style that causes more than the usual production headaches.
Apparently Romero is frustrated from the hassels of working within the studio system and wants to return to the independently financed route. Certainly the plot sounds like a good recipe for keeping costs down, but it’s hard for me to feel good about the project. Maybe it’s just the sorta lame title.
Despite my reservations, I gotta give the benefit of the doubt to Romero because, well, he’s George Romero. Spit bullets on what you think.
