I have not yet had the pleasure of seeing George Romero’s DIARY OF THE DEAD – I’ve heard some claim it’s the shiznit, some say it’s a disappointment. I can’t wait for it, I want to see George rollicking in the indie waters the way he likes.
I’m guessing that the planet Earth doesn’t spontaneously combust at the film’s conclusion, because a sequel is already in the planning stages, and Bloody Disgusting has got the goods. Read on below for the deets… Warning: contains spoilers concerning DIARY OF THE DEAD. Read at your own risk.
The “diary” saga continues. Our heroes, trapped in the mansion where we left them, battle waves of ravenous zombies, barely escaping alive. In search of a safe place to settle, they commandeer an abandoned ferry and sail to a deserted island, only to find that it is already populated by a civilization of the dead. Told in the same first-person style that distinguished “George A. Romero’s Diary of the Dead”, the next episode of the saga is a violent siege set in the middle of nowhere, a desperate struggle for survival, and peace, between two tribes: the living and the living dead.
At the moment, I don’t believe DIARY has an official release date, although the Weinstein Co. is the company pulling the strings (still strikes me as weird that Romero is in bed with guys notorious for involving themselves in the flicks they distribute. Ah well, what’s an old maverick supposed to do).
