Although there are quite a few things we’ve been informed of already concerning HOSTEL II (it takes place immediately following the first; our main protagonists are three girls; some of the story is told from the killers’ perspective) it’s always good to hear it (or read it) from the filmmaker’s mouth. Eli Roth chatted with Bloody Disgusting a bit about the sure-to-be nasty flick, and here’s what he had to say:
“For Hostel 2 there were a lot of different storylines that I wanted to continue. I was trying to think: ‘What would I want to see if I was watching a sequel?’ I wanted to see things from the killer’s point of view; I wanted to see girls getting lured there, I really wanted to make the movie feel like that sequence (in the first one) when he’s in the locker room with the businessman going ‘How’d you do it, how did you kill?’ Like that scene and the scene with the girls in the pub, where he’s trying to ask them questions but he can’t get any answers, and he’s not sure if they’re answering him or if its lost in translation… that sort of uncertain, uncomfortable, really awkward creepy tone: that’s what I wanted the whole movie to feel like.”
He goes on to mention that he’s already preparing extra ghoulishness for the DVD: “…I was actually editing some deleted scenes and other stuff for the DVD today. It’s really just stuff I cut for time. The goal was to make a better, scarier movie… I could easily make a more violent movie, you can show body parts being chopped up and there: It’s a more violent movie. I really wanted people to come out of the movie and say: ‘That was better than the first movie and it was scarier.’ And yeah it’s got the violence that you expect from Hostel – it’s gruesome, and it’s gnarly, but I just wanted to make a better, smarter, scarier, film.”
Sounds promising. From the look of the trailer (check it out HERE), this is gonna be a dark ride indeed, and I’m most interested in the sections dealing with the psychology of the “clients.” I thought the locker room/businessman scene in the first was probably the most compelling in the movie, and I’m glad Roth is expanding on that idea. HOSTEL II will cut your Achilles tendon on June 8.
