Rourke Expendable!

Just when you thought Sylvester Stallone’s THE EXPENDABLES was bursting at the seams with cast… they just added another big time action guy. According to Variety, none other than Mickey Rourke (right) has just signed on for the ‘mercenaries-on-a-mission’ adventure fresh off his great performance in THE WRESTLER. Apparently he’ll be playing an unscrupulous arms dealer who becomes the go-to guy for a group of mercenaries planning to topple a South American dictator.

Those group of mercenaries include Stallone, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Dolph Lungdren, and Randy Couture. Forest Whitaker will be playing an FBI agent hot on the trail of these merecenaries. They’ll be a female FBI agent to join Whitaker’s, though that hasn’t been cast yet. The other bits of cast include Robert Knepper and Juliana Paes (below), with Ben Kingsley also potentially in the mix. Sandra Bullock had her name tossed around a bit but those rumors seem to be false. And lastly Jean Claude Van Damme himself was offered Lungdren’s role by Stallone, but declined in favor of ‘concentrating on acting’ or something like that. E tu Van Damme?

Stallone is combining the driving action forces of new and old to bring us a potantilly earthshattering action flick in THE EXPENDABLES. LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD and RAMBO aside, there hasn’t been a great action movie in a while… so here we go! We’ll be keeping a close eye on THE EXPENDABLES for any more salivating casting news. When a movie breaks ‘IMDB’s Top 5 searched for’ 2 years before it’s release… it’s worth taking note of. Though I think we have to come up with a new title, ‘So-and-So Expended’ and ‘So-and-So Expendable’ are getting old.
