RRR’s Ram Charan ready for Marvel and Tarantino

When a movie becomes a massive success, the star better be planning his next move. For RRR’s Ram Charan, he’s dreaming big–like, Marvel and Quentin Tarantino big.

With RRR still a hot title during awards season, star Ram Charan is hoping to capitalize on its success. And why not try to get in on the action of some of the biggest franchises going? For starters, Charan wants in on the Marvel Cinematic Universe, saying, “Marvel is the biggest franchise in the world, and I’m a big fan of Tony Stark. The youngsters follow these Marvel stories so closely, and it’s a huge franchise in India.” Hey, he might be a good fit–after all, our own Jason Adams called RRR “the greatest superhero movie of 2022. And although it could very well be winding down, Charan also wants in on the Mission: Impossible series. He also said Top Gun: Maverick reduced him to tears. So yeah, Tom Cruise owes him a phone call!

As far as directors the RRR star loves, Ram Charan cited Christopher Nolan but also specifically mentioned he wants to work with Quentin Tarantino. “He’s my favorite. I love him. He’s quirky. He’s out of the box, and I just love him. I’ve been watching his movies since I was a kid.” That seems appropriate, since RRR director S.S. Rajamouli previously stated the movie was inspired by Tarantino’s Inglourious Basterds, particularly in its rendering of historical events. Of course, Ram Charan is going to have to act fast, since Tarantino reportedly only has one movie left in the canon.

In the meantime, Ram Charan may have to focus on the RRR sequel, which Rajamouli has already put in motion. On the sequel, Charan said, “He hasn’t brought it up to us yet, but I would really look forward to an RRR sequel. Why not? It’s got great characters, and I think Mr. Rajamouli will crack it again.”

RRR has proven to be a sensation both in its home country of India–it’s the third highest-grossing Indian film ever–and in the West. In addition to earning accolades from various critics groups and professional organizations, the movie is well on its way to earning the Best Original Song Oscar.
