Rumor: Vanessa Kirby on the shortlist for Catwoman in Reeves’ The Batman

As pre-production begins heating up for Matt Reeves' THE BATMAN, casting rumors are bound to be coming in hot with regard to who will star as the many villains and saviors of DC's forever-corrupt Gotham City. As part of the latest churnings down at the old Rumor Mill, Geeks Worldwide is reporting that THE CROWN and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – FALLOUT actress Vanessa Kirby could sharpen her claws as Catwoman for Reeves' upcoming film.

Obviously, word of Kirby's name being added to the shortlist of contenders for the role of Selina Kyle, DC's feline femme fatale, should be taken with a pinch of salt. I say this because Reeves and his team have yet to officially announce the character's involvement as part of the new project, so perhaps it's best to just sit tight.

For a time, it was thought that FROZEN and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS actor Josh Gad would open his umbrella as the Penguin for Reeves' film starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne/Batman. However, Gad recently confirmed that he's not spoken with Reeves or his team about assuming the role in any way.

Truth be told, we still know very little about Reeves' Bat-film, other than that the movie might take place in the '90s, with Pattinson playing a younger version of the Caped Crusader.

Personally, I hope that Kirby's name does officially land on the list. I find her to be quite captivating, and I trust that she'd make fine work of Selina's look, allure, and deadly prowess as Gotham's most notorious cat burglar.

Next up for Kirby is a role is FAST & FURIOUS PRESENTS: HOBBS & SHAW, which she plays Deckard Shaw's sister Hattie. The Fast spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, and Idris Elba will blast into theaters on August 2, 2019.
