Crowe would star with Hugh Jackman and Helena Bonham Carter in the film, which will be directed by Tom Hooper (THE KING’S SPEECH). The actor will play Javert, a police inspector and guard of the prison where Valjean (Jackman) is locked up (spoiler alert: they don’t really get along). Bonham-Carter would star as Madame Thenardier, an innkeeper who abuses Cosette, the heroine of the film.
LES MISERABLES was last adapted into a film in 1998 with Liam Neeson and Geoffrey Rush starring in the two male leads (Uma Thurman and Claire Danes starred as Fantine and Cosette respectively).
The new version is expected to be released on December 7, 2012 and, likely, get a big Oscar push from the studio.
