Russell Crowe to play a troubled actor in supernatural thriller

Despite Russell Crowe's lengthy filmography, the actor rarely dives into the genre of horror, but Crowe is set to lead a new supernatural thriller for Miramax which will change all that.

According to Deadline, the untitled project will find Russell Crowe playing a "troubled actor who begins to unravel while shooting a horror film. His estranged daughter wonders if he’s slipping back into his past addictions or if there’s something more sinister at play." An unhinged Russell Crowe? I'm game. Here's hoping that it fares better than Crowe's last flirtation with horror. Joshua John Miller and M.A. Fortin, the screenwriters behind the meta-horror comedy THE FINAL GIRLS, are slated to make their directorial debut on the film in addition to penning the script. Kevin Williamson, best known for his work on the SCREAM franchise, The Vampire Diaries, and The Following, is slated to produce the film as the first project to emerge from his first-look deal with Miramax. In a statement, Williamson said:

Bill and I are so excited to work with Russell, one of the greatest actors of our time. Fortin and Miller have such a fresh vision for this film, we know that together they will create something terrifying and memorable.

Russell Crowe was recently seen playing Roger Ailes in Showtime's limited-series The Loudest Voice, as well as THE TRUE HISTORY OF THE KELLY GANG, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last month. The actor will next be seen in UNHINGED, a road-rage thriller which is slated to hit theaters on August 28, 2020.
