Ryan Gosling was overwhelmed by the sets of Blade Runner 2049

With a movie as beloved as BLADE RUNNER, you're asking for all sorts of trouble when you begin crafting a sequel more than thirty years later, but with Ridley Scott, Harrison Ford, Denis Villeneuve, Roger Deakins and Ryan Gosling involved, it's awfully hard to have anything bad to say about BLADE RUNNER 2049. The first trailer managed to hit all of the right notes and has left me even more excited for what will, hopefully, be one of the standouts of 2017.

With BLADE RUNNER 2049 being one of the bigger upcoming science-fiction flicks, you'd expect that it would make ample use of green-screen, but director Denis Villeneuve insisted that the production minimize the amount of green-screens used and made sure to build large-scale practical sets to help the actors feel "truly immersed in the story." While speaking with Entertainment Weekly recently, Ryan Gosling said that the impressive sets left him feeling overwhelmed.

It’s really incredible. I was so overwhelmed by the scale of them and how specific and, although, beautiful they are.

Gosling also had nice words to say about BLADE RUNNER 2049 cinematographer Roger Deakins, who, from the looks of things, has knocked it out of the park once again. "Roger is a master. If there’s a Mount Rushmore of DPs, he’d be right there in the middle. He goes about his work very modestly and quietly, but you learn so much from just looking. You realize that once you are in one of his shots, half your job is already done.” BLADE RUNNER 2049 will hit theaters on October 6, 2017.
