Ryan Reynolds in a box flick Buried scores September release

Back when the Sundance Film Festival was going strong, a little movie called BURIED made big headlines for being the first film picked up by a major studio after only one night. That studio? Friend of the genre, Lionsgate Films (relive the moment HERE). Some time has passed since this announcement, and now Lionsgate is finally ready to through us a bone and give us a release date.

On September 24, 2010, the world is gonna know what it is to be Ryan Reynolds stuck in a box for 90 minutes, as that’s the new official release date for BURIED. A fall release, a week before October? For genre flicks, this weekend usually spells box office gold… let’s hope BURIED reaps the benefits of the date as well.

But it has to be more than Reynolds in a box, right? Um… no. That’s about it. But… let’s check out the film’s full synopsis anyway: a civilian contractor (Reynolds) in Iraq survives a roadside bombing and wakes up inside a coffin, buried under the ground. Using only a dying cell phone, the character has to try to raise a $5 million ransom or else figure out a way to escape.

I like the concept, and if they can sell this to audiences nationwide, then all the power to them. At least people seem to like Reynolds, so there’s a chunk of folks out there who will show up just cause he’s in it (without knowing what they’re getting themselves into).

Get ready, get set, get your calendar marked for September 24, 2010, when BURIED hits theaters nationwide.

Ryan Reynolds is a lucky man…
