While it appeared for a while like I AM NUMBER FOUR star Alex Pettyfer was going to play the lead in Warner Bros.’ exorcism thriller THE SEVENTH SON, perhaps his reported douchebaggy behavior took the job away from him. Evidence of his ouster from the project comes via Deadline.com, which is reporting that a young actor named Sam Claflin (pictured right) has nabbed the lead role in the film, which also stars Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore. (Claflin had previously been reported as testing for the role, but this is the first I’ve heard of the casting being solidified.)
THE SEVENTH SON, to be directed by Sergei Bodrov, is about the following:
Tom Ward, a young boy training to be an exorcist in the 1700’s, must learn how to exorcise ghosts, contain witches, and bind boggarts. Trouble begins when he’s tricked into releasing the most evil witch in the world.
That’s not the only thing about to occupy Mr. Claflin’s time; the actor has also been cast in SNOW WHITE AND THE HUNTSMAN, Rupert Sanders’ revisionist take on the fairy tale that stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil queen. Claflin’s going to be playing the prince.
This dude will also be seen in the new PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN sequel. Everybody, meet your new “It Boy”.
