Sam Jones says new Flash Gordon movie might be a sequel

We know FOX is developing a new FLASH GORDON movie, however according to Sam Jones it may not be a remake or a reboot, but a sequel to the 1980 film. Jones has been out promoting (and is the subject of) a new documentary called LIFE AFTER FLASH, and while speaking with Den of Geek the actor said he has been in contact with FOX's Matthew Reilly about the film.

Matthew Reilly (VP of production at Fox Studios) acquired the screenplay rights to Flash Gordon last year, and he hired John Davis and his staff to write the script. They’re looking to bring out a sequel actually. I met with Matt, we’re in talks about that. I’m very excited. A lot of people over the years, including Stephen Sommers and Neil H Moritz, have acquired the screenplay rights, but for whatever reason they did not do a follow up on the option. So I’m very excited about it.

While FOX could still do a FLASH GORDON sequel without Sam Jones, it does sound like he would star in it, based on his "We're in talks" comment. Perhaps it would only be a cameo with a different actor playing the character, but I'm sure there are quite a few people who would love to see Jones back on the big screen as Flash.

Seth MacFarlane's TED 2 starring Sam Jones opens on June 26, 2015.
