It took some wooing to get Sam Mendes to return to direct SPECTRE after the box office success of SKYFALL, but it looks like a man can only be wooed so much. Despite eventually returning after saying no to SPECTRE, Mendes may finally be done with 007 after the new film.
During a recent BBC interview, Mendes compared directing a Bond film to controlled chaos
"I said no to the last one and then ended up doing it, and was pilloried by all my friends. But I do think this is probably it. I don't think I could go down that road again. You do have to put everything else on hold."
Mendes is an Oscar-winning filmmaker known for his varied films ranging from AMERICAN BEAUTY to JARHEAD. SKYFALL was an excellent film and both the producers and fans clamored for Mendes to return. Mendes did say that he feels this same way after completing any film or stage production, so never say never to his return, but he seems pretty confident that he is going to go out on top with SPECTRE.
"And you really do feel it," he said. "This is a bigger movie than Skyfall. It's shot in more places – we were in Mexico City and Tangiers and northern Sahara and Rome and the Alps and London. It's been an enormous undertaking."
Mendes also revealed that the theme song for SPECTRE has been completed and that he is very excited about it. While he didn't reveal which pop singer performs the title track, he did hint that we will not have to wait long to hear it.
SPECTRE hits theaters on November 6th.
