Sony has decided to do a little release date shuffle for two of its high profile comedies coming out next year. First, they’d initially slated the Adam Sandler comedy GROWN UPS for a March 12th release but it apparently tested well enough that they’ve decided to put it right in the thick of summer for a June 25th release. It’ll now face stiff competition from the Stephanie Meyer adapted threequel THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE and M. Night Shamaglock’s fantasy epic THE LAST AIRBENDER. In it, Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James, David Spade and Rob Schneider star as high school friends who reunite for a fourth of July weekend. Maya Rudolph, Salma Hayek, Gary Busey, Steve Buscemi, David Spade and Norm MacDonald co-star.
Shifting GROWN UPS has also forced Sony to relocate the Seth Rogen starring and scripted action comedy adaptation THE GREEN HORNET. It was originally slated to open June 25th but now that GROWN UPS is taking up that slot, HORNET has been pushed back to July 9th, where it’ll be bullied by the PREDATORS reboot and Universal’s animated DESPICABLE ME. HORNET is, of course, adapted from the TV show in which a newspaperman fights crime alongside his Asian sidekick. Stephen Chow was attached to star as the Asian sidekick but he’d recently expressed some reluctance to take the role so it’s possible the part will be re-cast.
