Saved by the Bell graduates to season 2 at Peacock

The new kids of Bayside High and returning favorites from the original series are coming back for another season. It has been announced that the Saved by the Bell sequel series has been renewed for season two by the Peacock streaming service.

The streamer has ordered a 10-episode second season and the renewal comes as no real surprise. Saved by the Bell premiered in November to pretty solid reviews and it quickly became the No.1 show on the Peacock streaming service. The series is also the first original Peacock series to earn a renewal. Writer and executive producer Tracey Wigfield had this to say about the season two pickup:

"I'm thrilled that Saved by the Bell has been renewed. I've been blown away by all the love for the show and can't wait to go back and make more episodes. Hopefully we stay on Peacock for many more seasons, and then in 30 years, somebody does a reboot of our reboot and invents the threeboot."

At the start of the new series, a number of kids from underfunded high school whose doors Governor Zack Morris (Mark-Paul Gosselaar) closed, end up at Bayside, giving the privileged preppies that roam those halls a bit of a reality check. Newcomers making up the new generation of Bayside students include Haskiri Velazquez, Mitchell Hoog, Alycia Pascual-Pena, and Belmont Cameli while Mario Lopez, Elizabeth Berkley, Tiffani Thiessen, and Lark Voorhies returned to their Saved by the Bell roots as AC Slater, Jessie Spano, Kelly Kapowski, and Lisa Turtle, respectively.

While the new series leaned heavily on humor, the show also tackled some serious issues as well. The topic of race, inclusion, class, and education were also addressed and the show's season finale featured a staged walkout started by Daisy (Haskiri Velazquez) in order to keep the Douglas High students at Bayside. President of Universal Television Erin Underhill addressed the show's authenticity and relevance by saying "We are immensely proud of Tracey's innovative reimagining of Saved by the Bell for a new generation. The stories told in Season One are both authentic and meaningful and are elevated by outstanding performances from our cast. We are grateful to our partners at Peacock and the fans for their continued support of the series. We can't wait to be back next semester at Bayside High, a place where all are welcome."
