Not only did it slaughter the competition, but it also slaughtered all the previous SAW movies’ opening weekend numbers, as SAW made $18.3 million it’s opening weekend, and last year’s SAW II racked in $31.7 million. Nice!
I for one couldn’t be happier, as it’s my humble yet worthless opinion that SAW III was far superior than SAW II, and about on par with the original – definitely the best theatrically released horror flick of the season. The only downside? Lionsgate already has plans set in motion for a SAW IV to hit theaters next Halloween. And while normally this would have me jumping for joy… if you’ve seen part 3, then you’d know that that a part 4 is being made only for money reasons. Bummer.
