The Halloween-SAW legacy continues into yet another year, as SAW IV not only killed at the box office, but it slaughtered the competition!
Ranking in just over $32M, SAW IV managed to do what it’s predecessors have done, which is make more than it’s weight in gold within it’s first weekend of release. SAW II scored $32M upon it’s initial release, and SAW III even scored a bit higher with $34M. Talk about consistent!
So what does that mean for Lionsgate and the movie watching community? It means there’s no doubt in my mind that SAW V will be headed our way for Halloween ’08, that’s what! They would be stupid not to keep cashing in on the franchise that shows them nothing but love (i.e., money). Of course, after part III, was there a reason for more entries? No…. but that’s besides the point!
Also to note that 30 DAYS OF NIGHT dropped like a dead hooker over the weekend, only managing to scrape in $6.7M, which is sad, as you’d have thought peeps would want some vampire fun for this Halloween weekend to go along with their torture porn.
