Scream 5: Neve Campbell reveals how new directors convinced her to return

Neve Campbell will be returning for her fifth round with Ghostface in SCREAM 5 but it was no easy decision for the actress to decide to return to the franchise that was part of launching her movie career, especially without a familiar face at the helm.

Neve Campbell was on "The Talk" promoting her new Disney+ film, CLOUDS, and the subject of SCREAM 5 was brought up. While Campbell is now excited to return and reunite with old co-stars and meet fresh new faces, she admitted that she apprehensive to come back given the fact that Wes Craven, who directed the previous four entries, is no longer with us. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett ultimately got Campbell on board with a heartfelt pitch and their intentions to honor the films that came before:

"I had been apprehensive because our incredible director Wes Craven passed away and I wasn't sure about doing a film without him. But the new directors came to me with this beautiful letter, saying they've become directors and love film because of these films and because of Wes. And they really want to be true to his story and his journey with these films. So, I was really happy to hear that."

Shooting on the project is now underway, with Campbell expected to take off and film shortly. The actress also admitted that she's very excited to see David Arquette and Courteney Cox, who is also returning to the franchise, as well as working with a lot of the new talent:

"Oh, you guys, I'm 47 and I'm going to be covered in blood! I'm excited to get back to it. I'm excited to see Courteney and David. I'm excited to see this young new cast. I'm excited to work with these new directors."

Also returning for SCREAM 5 is SCREAM 4's Marley Shelton as Deputy Judy Hicks along with new faces Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid, Kyle Gallner, Dylan Minnette, Mikey Madison, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Plot details are a bit scarce but I'm thinking if they want to shock the audience that no one in this cast will be safe…including Campbell's Sidney Prescott, who has managed to survive Ghostface across four films now.
