SDCC rejects Piranha 3D footage for not being family friendly, panel pulled

There’s some drama flooding out of the San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) and it hasn’t even started yet! SDCC apparently rejected footage from PIRANHA 3D that The Weinstien Company (TWC) wanted to show the peeps in Hall H, causing TWC to pull the panel out of the Hall H schedule completely! Say whaaaat?

HitFix talked with the PR folks at SDCC as to what really happened, and they released this statement: My understanding is that thee footage wasn’t all ages appropriate. We don’t check ID to get into those meeting rooms, so we don’t want something inappropriate.

After SDCC banned the footage TWC could have gone on with the panel in Hall H (footageless), but they decided against and pulled out completely. Probably a good thing since if there’s no footage to show in Hall H what’s the flippin’ point?

What makes this so ridiculous is that the “footage must be PG” rule is utter bullshit. I’ve seen some hardcore footage in Hall H and other panels at the SDCC before, none of which was PG (maybe a hard PG-13, but certainly not family friendly). I’m not saying SDCC hates on horror movies and has something against this movie, I’m just saying that it’s f*cking weaksauce and there’s some serious double-standards at play.

So no PIRANHA 3D at this year’s SDCC. Lame. That said, SDCC said it’s not too late for TWC to re-submit lame violent-less footage from the film and be added back to the schedule of events. We shall see.
