Today, the boys over at Fangoria
featured an article about a little independent flick called SEX MACHINE
(READ THE AITH REVIEW HERE), and
after watching the trailer I must admit that I am strangely intrigued.
The film is about a man who wakes up with amnesia, and with several of his body
parts replaced as well. (Including one arm that is black, and the other heavily
tattooed and claiming his name is Sex Machine!) He discovers that he’s been put
together by a scientist from the body parts of failed assassins and must save
his girlfriend before the same fate happens to her.
Now I definitely think that I may enjoy this film for other reasons than just
the movie itself. I’ve always loved the story of Frankenstein’s monster, and as
director Christopher Sharpe discussed the influences of growing up in a small
blue collar town, that definitely struck a cord with me, since I too live
in a similar city.
Sharpe told Fangoria “I wanted to remix
FRANKENSTEIN, but set it in a modern-day, realistic environment, like [director
Richard Linklater’s] SLACKER, with bowling and strippers!” Sharpe also
went on to say
“I’ve always
looked at it [comics] as a real blue-collar medium,” says the director, “and
that’s what I wanted this movie to be. Since this was my first feature and I was
financing it myself, I decided not to worry about wearing my influences on my
sleeve.
Well I totally feel that,
(especially since the city I live in has the most strip clubs per capita in
North America!) and think you guys should check out the trailer
here,
or head over to Fangoria to read the rest of the interview with Christopher
Sharpe
