So M. Night Shyamalan (THE LAST AIRBENDER, THE HAPPENING) is somehow still being allowed to make movies, and today we’ve got photographic proof!
Taken from Will Smith’s Facebook and Shyamalan’s WhoSay page, these set photos are the first from the duo’s upcoming sci-fi film AFTER EARTH. For those of you cringing at the thought of more M. Night storytelling stupidity, the good news is that the project’s script has been in the hands of Gary Whitta (THE BOOK OF ELI) and Academy Award-winning writer Stephen Gaghan (TRAFFIC), so the end result may turn out to be palatable afterall. Here’s the film’s premise (via Variety):
“Will and Jaden Smith are set to star as a father and son who crash-land on Earth one thousand years after mankind has abandoned the planet. The crash leaves the elder Smith badly injured, and it’s up to the boy to find help in what is now a strange and dangerous place.”
AFTER EARTH also stars Zoe Kravitz, Sophie Okonedo, and Isabelle Fuhrman, and is currently scheduled to open June 7, 2013.
