It’s been a topsy-turvy ride for Mr. Uwe Boll thoughout his career. Frustrating is the word I’ll use. Just when you think the man is hitting his stride, bringing us engaging work like IN THE NAME OF THE KING and POSTAL, he’ll slip and go back to his old ways and deliver something like SEED, which instantly ruins all the good will that he’s been encouragingly building…
Of course, I kid… It’s all bad, all the time, and yes I can say that with certainty when it comes to SEED, as I saw the flick in the theater last October (read my review HERE). It’s really a putrid little shit-stain of a movie. Nihilistic and nasty in an effort to be “cutting-edge”, it only serves as a reminder that this director is consistently seeking out new sub-genres to leech off of (and failing – always). This time ’round he tries his hand at the serial-killer thing, and while he proves that he should maybe just stick to directing ratty little horror grossouts like this one (I’ll admit there are one or two effective gore scenes), he still just isn’t cut out for this whole “making a coherent movie” thing.
Oh, that brings me to the cover for the DVD, and before you ask, No, that image has nothing to do with anything, outside of the fact that an electric chair makes an appearance in the film. If Vivendi Entertainment wants to accurately represent the movie, why not use a screen-cap from the movie’s opening minutes, where we’re needlessly shown PETA footage of animals being tortured and murdered? Guess that doesn’t bring in the dough like a weird chick with frizzy hair sitting in an oversized electric chair, huh…
If you care, SEED will go to your local $1 bin immediately on SEPTEMBER 9th.
(Sorry for the rant. Here, enjoy this picture of a hot chick… Ahhhh… That hits the spot…
