Seminal sci-fi novel Stranger in a Strange Land to become TV show on SyFy

STRANGER IN A STRANGE LAND is one of the most famous sci-fi novels of all time. Written by Robert A. Heinlein (original author of STARSHIP TROOPERS), the novel is about:

Valentine Michael Smith, a human who comes to Earth in early adulthood after being born on the planet Mars and raised by Martians. The story explores his interaction with — and eventual transformation of — terrestrial culture.

Sounds cool! Admittedly, I haven't read the book myself, but it's definitely on my list of books to read…which I'll get around to once I finish all 1,001 GREATEST JOKES EVER "Q: Why did the cookie go to the hospital? A: Because he felt crummy ". Ha.

Anyway, it seems that SyFy is going to adapt the seminal work into an epic drama series. Which, honestly, could be really awesome! I loved BATTLESTAR GALACTICA, and have heard mostly good things about their ambitious new series THE MAGICIANS. Even their upcoming shows, like THE EXPANSE, all look pretty epic. SyFy admittedly has had a spotty track record (i.e. all those SHARNADO movies), but I still have high hopes.

The Chairman of NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment (which owns the SyFy network), Bonnie Hammer, had this to say about the series:

From my point of view, Stranger in a Strange Land isn’t just a science-fiction masterpiece … it also happens to be one of my favorite books ever…The story is timeless and resonates more than ever in today’s world. As a fan, I can’t wait to see it come to life as a world-class television event.

I can't wait either! Maybe I won't have to read the book after all! I mean, it's so long, and there's so much out there, like 1,001 PUNS, 1,001 DIRTY JOKES TO TELL GRANDPA, 1,001 WAYS TO KILL YOURSELF PAINLESSLY, and who honestly has the time?

Anyway, for people who've read the novel, what do you guys think? You guys excited, or worried?
