Shadow in the Cloud trailer: Chloe Grace Moretz battles gremlins during WWII

Chloe Grace Moretz stars in Shadow of the Cloud as a Maude Garrett, a female fighter pilot who joins the all-male crew of a B-17 bomber in the midst of World War II. With a top-secret package at stake, Garrett is also forced to contend with something sinister lurking within the plane — a gremlin. Just based on the concept, Shadow in the Cloud certainly sounds quite promising, but the recently released trailer doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Give it a watch for yourself and let us know what you think in the comments.

Our own Chris Bumbray reviewed Shadow in the Cloud at the Toronto International Film Festival this year, but despite wanting to love it, he unfortunately found little of substance. "While beautifully shot by director Roseanne Liang with DP Kit Fraser, and boasting a top-shelf cast," Bumbray wrote, "the film cannot recover from an atrocious script that’s little more than a rip-off of the well-worn 'Twilight Zone- Nightmare at 20,000 Feet' episode, albeit moved to WW2 and given a female action hero lead." You can check out the rest of Bumbray's review right here. Shadow in the Cloud will be distributed by Vertical Entertainment and Redbox Entertainment.

The official synopsis for Shadow in the Cloud:

In the throes of World War II, Captain Maude Garrett (CHLOË GRACE MORETZ) joins the all-male crew of a B-17 bomber with a top-secret package. Caught off guard by the presence of a woman on a military flight, the crew tests Maude’s every move. Just as her quick wit is winning them over, strange happenings and holes in her backstory incite paranoia surrounding her true mission. But this crew has more to fear…lurking in the shadows, something sinister is tearing at the heart of the plane. Trapped between an oncoming air ambush and an evil lurking within, Maude must push beyond her limits to save the hapless crew and protect her mysterious cargo.

Shadow in the Cloud will be released in select theaters and on Digital/VOD on January 1, 2021.
