Shadow/Colossus movie?

Between THOR and GOD OF WAR and all that other ‘gods and goddesses’ stuff floating around it seems another title has gotten lost in the shuffle. And apparently this story is pretty epic. I’m talking of course about the cult classic PlayStation 2 game SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS.

Now I can’t recall hearing anything about SHADOW being adapted for the big screen until today, and that’s somewhat of a surprise considering it’s fanbase. Personally I’ve never had a chance to check the game out but that’s not because I haven’t been interested. Just seems there’s always an XBox 360 game flagging me down and keeping me away from the good ol PS2 and the SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS glory. Alas I might not have to wait long to see this one played out!

The good word from Variety is that Sony are looking to adapt the popular video game for the big screen! And what an adaptation that would be. They’ve gone ahead and pegged Justin Marks to pen the script already and are looking at Kevin Misher to produce. Apparently the film will ‘build upon the vidgame’s fantasy setting of a solitary world with few characters other than the 16 enemies.’ Here’s the synopsis:

SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS is about a man named Wander who must travel across a cursed wasteland and defeat 16 creatures, known as the colossi, in order to restore the life of a girl.

Works for me. So all’s looking good for this one, especially considering scribe Justin Marks’ recent credits. Those credits include: The McG directed 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA: CAPTAIN NEMO, DC Comics’ SUICIDE SQUAD, GREEN ARROW: ESCAPE FROM SUPERMAX for Warner Brothers, HE-MAN AND THE MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, the HACK/SLASH adaptation, and VOLTRON: DEFENDER OF THE UNIVERSE. All of which are yet to be made into films but still impressive none-the-less. Looks like the man loves his fantasy. We’ll be awaiting more on SHADOW OF THE COLOSSUS so keep it here for updates.
