In addition to the cheesy monster movies everyone loves, Syfy has been putting horror spins on classic fairy tales for their Saturday night original movies. We’ve already seen BEAUTY AND THE BEAST and RED; now they’re taking a stab at the Brothers Grimm’s “Hansel and Gretel” with GRETL.
Shannen Doherty (pictured, “CHARMED”) will star in the lead role, while Paul McGillion (“STARGATE: ATLANTIS”) will play Hansel. Additional cast includes John Boylan, Sarain Boylan (SAW IV), Jefferson Brown, Erica Cox, Marianthi Evans, Sophia Ewaniuk, Nahanni Johnstone and Daniela Lazzaro.
Mario Azzopardi (“THE OUTER LIMITS”) will helm the film for Chesler/Permutter Productions and Vesuvius Productions. It is scheduled to premiere on Syfy in November, with an exact date to be announced. Here is the plot:
As an adult, a witch hunter returns to the village where he lived as a child to find and kill the witch who killed his sister, Gretl, only to find that Gretl is not dead and danger lurks around every corner.
