Showtime president David Nevins defends “Dexter” & his new romance

Now before I even get into this article let me just say that there are definitely some spoilers in here. So if you haven’t caught yourself up you might want to skip this one. Moving on….

I don’t know about the rest of you but the one thing I wasn’t really feeling during this latest season of Showtime’s “Dexter” was the whole ‘Debra loves Dexter’ deal. I know they’re adopted siblings but it’s still a bit too incestuous for me. Apparently Showtime president David Nevins doesn’t think so.

You see the Showtime Chief recently chatted a bit about the romantic turn in “Dexter” at the Television Critics Association’s winter press tour. Apparently the executive has been “pushing to shake up the formula for a bit.” Peep the rest of what he had to say:

“I’m aware that there’s a certain taboo despite the fact that they’re not genetically related, but it’s something that has been building for a number of years. If you go back and look the past couple seasons, it’s an idea that has informed how they’ve done the show for a long time.”

I think there’s a very clear trajectory where they’re going. It’s time to shake up what Dexter goes through so he’s not quite such a lone wolf .”

And in regards to Michael C. Hall (Dexter) and Jennifer Carpenter’s (Debra) failed marriage and if it’s awkward while filming: “They know what’s going on and they have a very good relationship, it’s quite comfortable. That has been a conversation and that will continue to be a conversation.”

Personally I’m a huge fan of “Dexter” and there’s no way this angle is going to keep me away from the show, I just hope they do something good with it. Then again we are talking about the “Dexter” writers here so I’ve got complete faith.

But Dexter’s forbidden relationship isn’t the only thing Nevins touched on at the meetings. He also mentioned whether or not the series will end after Season 8: “This is the likely end point, but I’m allowing for the possibility that the plan could change.” Translation: “If there’s a boatload of money to be made we’ll keep on rolling.” Hey that’s fine with me!

“Dexter” Season 7 should be heading our way later this year. Be sure to keep it here for all things “Dexter” as they come our way.
