Are you a fan of campy genre flicks that don’t take themselves seriously at all and hit us with excessive amounts of gore at the same time? If you answered yes to that then chances are you’re a fan of JACK BROOKS: MONSTER SLAYER. Now to be fair… I nodded off during JACK BROOKS… but in the end I was digging it so everything worked out. The titular character sold that shite for me… and everything else was icing on the cake.
Now a JACK BROOKS sequel is in the works, and this time he’ll be battling a lot more baddies supposedly… but unfortunately we’ll have to wait for the filmmakers to tackle another project first: THE SHRINE. We’ve been keeping you updated on THE SHRINE since it was announced, with a huge cast update coming earlier this week. Well it seems like this one is moving quick because we’ve already got a teaser trailer to check out! It comes at us via Vimeo and can be found below. We’ve also got the official website right over HERE. So what’s the verdict?
Alright. So that wasn’t exciting… at all. That teaser literally gives us absolutely nothing. We get the info that the same guys that did JACK BROOKS are doing this one and we get a closeup of the above logo… regardless of this pointless teaser I’m still intrigued by THE SHRINE. Here’s it’s synopsis: After a young American backpacker goes missing in Europe, a group of journalists link his disappearance to a remote Polish village called Alvaina. Upon further investigation, the journalists discover that Alvaina has a history of bizarre cult activity revolving around human sacrifice. Hellbent on revealing the truth, they travel to the small village to uncover the story first hand. But after the discovery of an ancient stone statue hidden within the town, they quickly find themselves pursued by a mysterious and vengeful group of locals. Forced into the gruesome reality of true survival horror, the journalists soon realize that Alvaina hides a much darker secret than they could ever imagine.
Sounds a bit like THE WICKER MAN meets HOT FUZZ. It actually doesn’t sound too groundbreaking but it’s from JACK BROOKS director Jon Knautz with JACK BROOKS star Trevor Matthews so I’ll give it a shot. THE SHRINE also stars Aaron Ashmore, Cindy Sampson, Debra McCabe, Connor Stanhope, Monica Bugajski and Ben Lewis. Principal photography is set to start in a couple days so hopefully we’ll have more SHRINE updates to pass along soon!
