Shut your mouth! A Shaft reboot is in the works

Who is the man getting a reboot? SHAFT! You're damn right, New Line is moving forward with a SHAFT reboot. If you’re keeping score, the last SHAFT film, which was also a reboot, came out in 2000. So by today’s standards, this actually sounds long overdue I’d say. With social injustice capturing all the headlines these days, it’s probably a great time for a version closer to the 1971 version directed by Gordon and starring Richard Roundtree.

The Wrap reports that producer John Davis (PREDATOR) will be developing the property  and that there isn't an actor attached to the lead yet. We also don't know if this will be a complete reboot or continue the legacy with the understanding the audience knows who Shaft is. This story is fresh, so if you have an actor in mind for the role of private detective John Shaft, start the online noise now!

The 2000 version directed by John Singleton and starring Samuel L. Jackson was pretty tame, so let’s hope New Line really goes for it with this one and doesn’t water it down like they did with FRIDAY THE 13th (2009) and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET (2010).
