How f*cking awesome was that trailer for Mr. Martin Scorsese’s SHUTTER ISLAND that we posted last month?! If you haven’t checked it out yet, do yourself a huge favor and click right HERE (but please don’t forget to come back to read this article). I just find it so damn cool that an Oscar-winning genius like Marty (I hope he doesn’t mind me calling him that) and a truly talented actor like Leonard DiCaprio both have the gumption to take part in a frightening, genre-friendly project like this. Kind of like the way SILENCE OF THE LAMBS came about.
Today, I came across the brand new poster for ISLAND, which I had to post for you above. I guess if you want to sell a flick, just having a big shot of Leo’s face would be the way to go. I do like the deep red tinge the whole thing is coated in. How about you guys? Could they have done more? Honestly after seeing the trailer, it doesn’t matter what kind of poster they release. I’m already sold.
Here’s the plot: It’s 1954, and up-and-coming U.S. marshal Teddy Daniels is assigned to investigate the disappearance of a patient from Boston’s Shutter Island Ashecliffe Hospital. He’s been pushing for an assignment on the island for personal reasons, but before long he wonders whether he hasn’t been brought there as part of a twisted plot by hospital doctors whose radical treatments range from unethical to illegal to downright sinister. Teddy’s shrewd investigating skills soon provide a promising lead, but the hospital refuses him access to records he suspects would break the case wide open. As a hurricane cuts off communication with the mainland, more dangerous criminals “escape” in the confusion, and the puzzling, improbable clues multiply, Teddy begins to doubt everything – his memory, his partner, even his own sanity.
Yeah, this should kick ass. Plus, the cast in addition to DiCaprio rocks: Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley, Emily Mortimer (below), Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow, Jackie Earle Haley, Elias Koteas, Patricia Clarkson, and Ted Levine. Can you believe that dream cast?! SHUTTER opens on October 2nd.
