Simon Kinberg says X-Men: Apocalypse culminates First Class trilogy

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE won't be the end of the mutant film series, but during an interview with Collider at TIFF, screenwriter Simon Kinberg did say it will wrap up the character arcs from the previous two installments, FIRST CLASS and DAYS OF FUTURE PAST.

It delivers on the dramatic story and emotion of the last two movies. It feels like the culmination of the four main characters really — McAvoy, Fassbender, Nic Hoult, and Jen. And it’s a bigger movie in both physical scale and I would say emotional stakes too because it is the culmination of this mini trilogy of stories.

The X-MEN: APOCALYPSE sequel (which hasn't been confirmed yet, but you know Fox has future plans for the franchise) will likely look a little different compared to the "First Class Trilogy," since the upcoming film will re-introduce classic X-Men characters like Cyclops and Jean Grey. Jennifer Lawrence also still hasn't decided yet if she'll reprise her Mystique role for a fourth time, and, depending on how quickly the studio wants to start production on the next entry, Bryan Singer may not be able to direct it due to his 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA commitments. What would you like to see in the APOCALYPSE follow-up?

X-MEN: APOCALYPSE is scheduled to open on May 27, 2016, and there's talk that the first trailer could screen with Ridley Scott's THE MARTIAN when it hits theaters next week.
