Singer does Galactica

Before I even start this article let me tell you all I’m not a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA fan. It’s not because I dislike the show though, it’s only because I’ve never given it a chance. Now I know there’s a large audience out there for GALACTICA and fans of the show are passionate about it so I’m here today to pass along a decent sized bit of GALACTICA news.

Unfortunately the news today doesn’t have anything to do with the recent television series or even television for that matter. Instead it deals with the 1970s series and Bryan Singer. You see where I’m going with this? Well if you’re a fan of the series you should! Word is Universal are looking at Singer to produce and possibly direct a GALACTICA feature that serves as a sequel to the 1970s series. Now this should not be a huge surprise to fans of the franchise…

The scoop comes from over at HitFix who also remind us that Singer and Tom De Santo were all geared up to get a BATTLESTAR GALACTICA feature off the ground back in 2001 for the Sci-Fi Channel. Well the tragic events of 9/11 hit and Sci-Fi started feeling uneasy about a Cylon sneak attack set to be in the film… so there goes that.

So Universal planning on bringing a GALACTICA feature to the big screen with Singer possibly directing raises all kinds of questions. Will this film respect the television show of the several years or will it act as if that never happened? Right now we don’t even know if Singer is signed on for sure so everything is speculation at this point. As always we’ll pass along word on anything to do with BATTLESTAR GALACTICA as we hear it.
