Singer talks X-Men: First Class, casting Taylor Lautner and Meagan Good?

Bryan Singer was out speaking this weekend (at a church of all places) and Blastr, a division of Syfy, caught up with the director and grilled him on all things X-MEN. Regarding those rumors that Taylor Lautner might be cast in a cameo as a young(er) Wolverine in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS? Yeah that’s a complete rumo–wait, it’s true?!

“I wanted Taylor to do it, I really did…We talked about it a lot, he is a friend, and I really wanted to make it work. It just doesn’t look like it’s possible to do it.” I’m guessing that “it just doesn’t look like it’s possible” really means “Matthew Vaughn wouldn’t stand for it.” I’m sure Fox is pushing to have a Wolverine cameo in FIRST CLASS but get Hugh Jackman! Wolverine was already a grown man when he first encountered Xavier.

In other casting news, Singer reveals an interesting name we hadn’t previously heard: Meagan Good. He says her participation is still “uncertain” but that’s a step up from Lautner, who he clarified as “out.” Good would very likely be taking over for Halle Berry as a young Ororo Munroe/Storm. (If you remember, Storm had a cameo in X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE as a young girl but was cut out.) Not sure how the ages would work though because good is 28 now, just four years younger than Berry when she started work on X-MEN. I assumed they were casting younger than that (always thought Zoe Kravitz would make a good, young Storm).

So far James McAvoy, Matthew Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult and Jennifer Lawrence have been cast in the film with many younger mutants still on the way. Stay tuned…
