As you may know, Sitges ’08 is nearly upon us. It’s one of the coolest film festivals in the world, celebrating some of cinema’s weirder entries. (For the full line-up of movies, click it HERE.)
We just received word of a few awards being given out during the fest, well-deserved ones at that. Read on for the deets:
The 41st edition of Sitges – International Film Festival of Catalonia, dedicated to celebrating the 40th anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey, will pay tribute to Stanley Kubrick by awarding the Sitges 08 Grand Prize to his widow, Christiane Kubrick.
The commemoration of this science fiction masterpiece will be attended by, among others, actors Gary Lockwood and Keir Dullea, special effects supervisor Douglas Trumbull and Jan Harlan, executive producer and Kubrick’s assistant.
The Sitges Grand Prize will be presented before the movie screening at the Meliá Sitges Auditorium on Friday, October 3rd, and immediately afterwards there will be a talk with the audience.
The Festival’s classic Time Machine Awards will be going to Abel Ferrara, John Carpenter and Charlie Kaufman.
Abel Ferrara will collect his award on Monday, October 6th before the presentation of Chelsea on the Rocks in the Seven Chances category.
Charlie Kaufman will receive his on Thursday, October 9th before the screening of the out-of-competition film Synecdoche, New York.
Sitges 08 will also have the honor of including John Carpenter, who received the award from Festival director Ángel Sala at his Los Angeles home, among its list of Time Machine Award Winners.
