Ouija boards have always creeped me out. Mostly because my mom, who is about as reasonable as they come, had an experience with one as a teenager that she STILL won’t talk about. All I know is that something really f*cked up happened.
So when I get the heads up on a new pic coming out of The Netherlands that features kids messing around with a Ouija board, I am duty bound to check out the teaser trailer. The pic in question is called SL8N8 aka SLACHT NACHT aka SLAUGHTER NIGHT. Before you rush off to check out the trailer, here’s the synopsis from the Production Site:
A group of youth go on an excursion to an old mine. They learn that it was the place where a serial killer named Martiens was brought to death. Martiens had to work as a so-called fire-man: criminals who functioned as fire-men had to detect mine-gas and set it off. If they survived the explosion they were pardoned. If not, justice was served anyway.
Having brought along an Ouija board just for kicks, they contact the spirit world and unwittingly unleashe Martiens’ spirit, looking for revenge: although he successfully acted as a fireman and survived the blast, he wasn’t pardoned but left to die in the mine.
Their visit becomes a gruelling nightmare as, one by one, they fall prey to a hidden and merciless evil power that takes possession of their bodies. In a nerve wrecking race against time they have to put Martiens’ spirit to rest and get out of the mine alive.
Sweet set up, and holy shite the trailer delivers. Sure it’s unsubtitled and presumably in Dutch, but who f*cking cares. This puppy just rocketed to the top of my must see list. Check out the teaser at distributor Moonlight Films website to see why.
