Slasher season 5 will star Eric McCormack, story is set in the late 1800s

AMC Networks has announced that they have ordered a new season of the television anthology series Slasher – a show that started out on the now-defunct network Chiller, then moved to Netflix for the second and third seasons, and then jumped over to AMC’s Shudder streaming service for the fourth season (which happened to have genre icon David Cronenberg as a cast member). According to Deadline, the new season will be titled Slasher: Ripper, and is set in the late 1800s… and yet it’s not about Jack the Ripper.

Here’s the synopsis:

Slasher is heading back in time to the late 19th century — there’s a killer stalking the mean streets, but instead of targeting the poor and downtrodden like Jack the Ripper, The Widow is meting out justice against the rich and powerful. The only person standing in the way of this killer is the newly promoted detective, Kenneth Rijkers, whose ironclad belief in justice may wind up being yet another victim.

Eric McCormack of Will & Grace has already been cast in the role of Basil Garvey, “a charismatic tycoon whose success is only rivaled by his ruthlessness, as he oversees a city on the cusp of a new century, and a social upheaval that will see its streets run red with blood.”

Produced by Shaftesbury, Slasher is executive produced by Christina Jennings, Scott Garvie, Thomas P. Vitale, Aaron Martin, Ian Carpenter, and Adam Macdonald.

Slasher: Ripper will begin filming sometime in the spring.

I’ve heard good things about Slasher, some seasons more than others, so I really need to catch up this show. Maybe I’ll have watched the other seasons by the time Slasher: Ripper premieres.
